Life Skills
Life Skills is a voluntary program designed to foster independence with dignity for all participants. With the help of a Caseworker, families establish and reach their goals of self-sufficiency through a personal plan for success. Although it is not a requirement to be enrolled in school or be employed to apply for services, prospective participants must be willing to work with a Caseworker and have a desire to become self-sufficient.
The program includes referrals for: career exploration, education, on-the-job training, housing and other government programs. The program also includes monthly group education/support meetings and monthly visits in the office and home to monitor progress towards goals and address barriers to self-sufficiency. When participants have achieved self-sufficiency—and no longer need assistance to pay for their housing or living expenses--they have successfully completed the program.
