Approach

Our Mission

Family Services, Inc. is a private non-profit organization that "helps families help themselves".

Our Purpose
We were founded in 1964 to strengthen families and individual family members of all ages and incomes in Tippecanoe and the surrounding counties to achieve self-sufficiency and experience dignity throughout their lifetime. We do this by:

  • Offering programs to address individual, family, and community needs through prevention, early intervention, preservation, and supportive services.
  • Fostering collaboration among families, organizations, communities, and governments.
  • Providing leadership in advocating for policies and actions which support families and the communities in which they live and work.

Our Vision

We all come from families. The family is the foundation of our culture and must be valued by our communities. The integrity and dignity of the family must be nurtured, respected, and protected from harm. Our vision is that all families can be emotionally and economically self-sufficient, safe, and as healthy as possible. Every family will be involved in constructive activities, have a good quality of life, be adaptable to the joys and tragedies of life, and contribute to the betterment of their community.

Our Core Beliefs

We serve Tippecanoe and the surrounding seven counties with a variety of programs which are based on the following core beliefs:

American family life reflects our heritage of cultural and ethnic diversity and encompasses a variety of family structures. A family consists of two or more people, whether living together or apart, related by blood, marriage, adoption, or lifetime commitment to care for one another.

Well-functioning families are both a building block for, and a support to, businesses and the larger community. Such families provide emotional, physical and economic mutual aid to their members, assisting family members in both survival and well-being by fostering intimacy, continuity and commitment among their members from birth through death.

Strong families are characterized by nine major factors: clear, open, and frequent communication; encouragement of one another; commitment to the family unit; spiritual orientation; social connectedness; ability to adapt to stressful changes and potentially damaging events; expression of appreciation for the unique qualities of each family member; clear definition of roles between parents and children; and quality free time spent with one another.

The community as a whole must partner with families to ensure their success in order to have a healthy, prosperous community and economy.

Our Goals
Family Services, Inc. has been helping families help themselves since 1964. We believe that strong families are the backbone of our community.

Strong communities are built on the backs of successful, happy, and healthy individuals. Family connections and how they can be built are at the very heart of our programs to strengthen families of all ages and incomes.

Families that are strong rear strong children and care for their elders. These strong families are not only filled with love, but can also nurture, support, and teach one another. We pride ourselves on teaching skills and coping mechanisms to families and individuals so they will be able to face everyday obstacles that interfere with daily life.

At the heart of Family Services, Inc.'s programs is the firm belief that self-sufficiency is important to everyone. By strengthening families and teaching them self-sufficiency skills, these building blocks will construct a strong foundation and enable family members to face life's challenges with independence and dignity. This will result in a better community for all of us
